Mucho Mucho by Maryssa Rose Chavez: Maryssa (b. 1997), is an artist and photographer with nearly a decade of experience working in photo-based mediums with the whole of her focus being on the healing, revisiting, naming in her ancestral homelands of Northern New Mexico, Pueblo Territory. She lives between Austin, Texas (unceded Tonkawa Land) and Española / Chimayo, NM. Her family is central to her and the work she makes, and are seen and named throughout her work, both in reverence to their lives on earth and their lives after death. While fibers and textiles were a significant center point in her past photo-textile works, she now emphasizes sculpture with earthen materials. Blending them with her image-making processes using in-camera techniques and alternative methods for personal storytelling and deep-time remembering. She also is an adornment/jewelry artist and pulls her inspiration for her various mostly repurposed/upcycled pieces from the earthen beauty around her, and the various muses in her close circle of friends/chosen family. These practices + Mucho Mucho (dedicated in remembrance of her late father), cumulate to form a long-term love letter to herself, her ancestors, and future ancestors.
