This hand beaded medallion necklace measures 3 1/4 inches in diameter. The medallion features moose hide, glass cut seed beads, glass tri-cut beads, 24 karat gold-plated beads, white-heart beads, and fire-polished Czech glass beads. The moose hide background is hand-cured, tanned by a First Nations family in Canada. 18 karat gold plated hardware connects the medallion to a 26 inch beaded necklace. Satin gold, nylon-covered stainless steel wire strings together a necklace of fire-polished Czech glass beads, 24 karat gold-plated beads, white heart beads, and white hairpipe bone beads. Black niimíipuu (Nez Perce) artist Kellen Trenal beaded and assembled this medallion by hand. The artist honors the craftsmanship of the tanned moose hide by allowing it to speak just as much as the section embellished with specialty bead embroidery. Purposeful placement of the beaded design gives equal value to all the materials showcased in this piece.
