About the Artist

Ephraim “Zefren-M” Anderson is a celebrated Diné artist from Shiprock, NM—renowned as a master weaver, silversmith, and multi-disciplinary creative. Trained through Diné College’s Navajo Cultural Arts Program, Zefren-M has earned numerous awards, including Best of Show at the Heard Museum Guild Indian Fair & Market and multiple honors at the Gallup InterTribal Ceremonial and Santa Fe Indian Market.

In 2024, Ralph Lauren’s Double RL label released a capsule collaboration with Zefren-M, featuring hand-knit shawl cardigans, reimagined workshirts, accessories, and a handwoven floor rug—each piece infused with traditional Navajo colors and motifs. Zefren-M also created stamped conchos inspired by classical Navajo imagery, honoring their heritage and creative lineage.


Special Guest – Nikyle Begay

Nikyle Begay (Diné) is a sheep herder, fiber artist, storyteller, and advocate for the preservation of Churro sheep and traditional Navajo fiber lifeways. Known for their deep knowledge of wool processing—from shepherding and shearing to hand-spinning and dyeing—Nikyle brings a holistic view of fiber arts rooted in land stewardship and cultural continuity. Their work has been featured in exhibitions and collaborations that highlight the intersection of sustainability, community, and Indigenous artistry.


Workshop Overview

Join us for a two-day beginner-friendly weaving experience with one of today’s most acclaimed Navajo weavers, ZefrenM Anderson, alongside special guest Nikyle Begay.

You’ll work on upright looms and create your own 8.5″ × 10.5″ sampler, learning the fundamentals of Navajo weaving while exploring the cultural significance of fiber arts in the Southwest.

You’ll Learn:

  • Upright loom setup and techniques

  • Interlocking two colors on the same plane

  • Design planning and color selection

  • Cultural histories of Navajo weaving, wool stewardship, and fiber practices


What’s Included

  • Pre-warped upright loom (one per participant)

  • Four skeins of Navajo-Churro wool in natural colors

  • Starter kit: batten, comb, heddles, needles, scissors

  • Printed booklet: weaving terminology, course review, care tips

  • Diné Owned Labah Drive Coffee & Navajo Tea provided each morning by 4KINSHIP for the 10 AM start

  • Healthy lunch each day featuring fresh produce from Diné-owned Nááts’íilid Farm

Day 1 – Sept 13

  • 10 AM–Noon: Welcome, introductions, loom overview, weaving demo (interlocking colors)

  • Noon–1 PM: Lunch (on-site)

  • 1 PM–3 PM: Begin weaving sampler; design guidance

Day 2 – Sept 14

  • 10 AM–Noon: Continue weaving; design support

  • Noon–1 PM: Lunch (on-site) prepared by 4KINSHIP founder Amy Denet Deal

  • 1 PM–3 PM: Finish sampler; cultural storytelling; Q&A; closing reflection
