About this piece

Painting The Unseen by Hilma AF Klint 2016

We’re honored to release the first drop from the 4KINSHIP Studio Library — a curated collection of vintage and gently used books gathered over decades of research, travel, design, and lived experience.

These titles have shaped our thinking. They’ve informed our dye practices, textile studies, Indigenous design ethics, land-based storytelling, and our broader creative journey. Some are rare. Some are well-loved. All have been part of the foundation of what became 4KINSHIP.

As we thoughtfully downsize our archives, we’re excited to pass these phenomenal reads forward — into new studios, homes, classrooms, and creative spaces.

May they inspire you the way they inspired us.
May they be used, referenced, dog-eared, and loved again.

A landmark volume on Hilma af Klint (1862–1944), now recognized as a pioneer of abstract art — working years before Kandinsky and Malevich.

Focused on The Paintings for the Temple, her visionary series of 193 largely abstract works, this book explores her spiritual, symbolic, and geometric approach to painting the unseen. Af Klint described herself as a medium, creating work guided by higher forces and aimed at uniting science, mysticism, masculine and feminine energies.

Her work remained unseen publicly until 1987. An inspiring and collectible addition to any serious art, design, or creative library.

A powerful volume for collectors of modern art history, spiritual abstraction, and women-led art movements.
