We deal mostly in vintage and overstock items that can be restored and/or upcycled. Due to the age of these items, most of them are smaller in size which refelcts sizing of the period the garment was made. We look for a variety of different materials and types of products, traditionally sized for both women and men to help offset some of this challenge. When doing small batch, we are as inclusive as possible and offer unisex sizing which often goest up to a 3xl size. Many of our jewelry items are also adjustable in nature.

About this piece
The Art and Craft of Natural Dyeing by J.N.Liles 1990
We’re honored to release the first drop from the 4KINSHIP Studio Library — a curated collection of vintage and gently used books gathered over decades of research, travel, design, and lived experience.
These titles have shaped our thinking. They’ve informed our dye practices, textile studies, Indigenous design ethics, land-based storytelling, and our broader creative journey. Some are rare. Some are well-loved. All have been part of the foundation of what became 4KINSHIP.
As we thoughtfully downsize our archives, we’re excited to pass these phenomenal reads forward — into new studios, homes, classrooms, and creative spaces.
May they inspire you the way they inspired us.
May they be used, referenced, dog-eared, and loved again.

A foundational manual in the world of natural dyeing.
First published in 1990, J.N. Liles’ The Art and Craft of Natural Dyeing blends historical dye lore with detailed, practical instruction for modern fiber artists. Covering cotton, wool, silk, and linen, the book offers comprehensive recipes for sourcing ingredients, preparing dye baths, and achieving specific, repeatable colors.
Widely regarded as a classic studio reference, this volume is valued for its depth and methodical approach — suitable for both beginners and experienced dyers refining their practice.
Please note: as with many books of its era, safety guidance reflects the time of publication and should be supplemented with current research and best practices.
An essential addition to any natural dye, textile, or material-focused creative library.
