About this piece

Early Lama Foundation by Ahad Cobb 2008

We’re honored to release the first drop from the 4KINSHIP Studio Library — a curated collection of vintage and gently used books gathered over decades of research, travel, design, and lived experience.

These titles have shaped our thinking. They’ve informed our dye practices, textile studies, Indigenous design ethics, land-based storytelling, and our broader creative journey. Some are rare. Some are well-loved. All have been part of the foundation of what became 4KINSHIP.

As we thoughtfully downsize our archives, we’re excited to pass these phenomenal reads forward — into new studios, homes, classrooms, and creative spaces.

May they inspire you the way they inspired us.
May they be used, referenced, dog-eared, and loved again.

A reflective publication documenting the early years of the Lama Foundation in the mountains of Northern New Mexico.

Founded in the late 1960s by a young couple who sought to build a spiritual community dedicated to the awakening of consciousness, the Lama Foundation grew into a retreat center and gathering place for thousands — a sanctuary for inspiration, transformation, healing, and contemplative practice.

This volume contains rare photographic images from 1968–1983, offering an intimate visual record of the Foundation’s first sixteen years. The photographs mirror the evolution of the community and capture a period when art, spirituality, ecology, and intentional living converged in the New Mexico landscape.

A meaningful artifact of back-to-the-land culture, spiritual community history, and Northern New Mexico creative lineage.

Ideal for collectors of regional history, spiritual studies, and countercultural archives.
